Baseball umpires honor Stratford High with a sportsmanship award

STRATFORD—The Fairfield County Chapter of Approved Baseball Umpires held their annual season wrap-up dinner banquet this on Monday night and gave the Stratford Red Devils baseball team one of its 2019 John “Sharkey” Laureno Sportsmanship Awards.

The dinner was hosted by Zody’s 19th Hole Restaurant at the E.G. Brennan Golf Course in Stamford, CT.

The award covers the 2019 season and it recognizes the exemplary display of sportsmanship by the players, coaches, and fans of Stratford Baseball.  It turned out to be the second time in three years (with the first time being in 2016) that the FCCABU selected Stratford Baseball for this recognition on sportsmanship.

Head Baseball Coach Mick Buckmir proudly accepted the award on behalf of the entire baseball program and he was joined at the dinner by assistant coaches Skip Lance and Jim Sarantides.
