EAST HARTFORD—Hundreds upon hundreds of runners converged on Wickham Park on Saturday to compete in the 2019 CIAC Class Championship meets.
Both Bunnell and Stratford attended the meets.
Bunnell’s Dennis Johnson placed 25th in the Class L boys race with a time of 17:44.
Johnson was 57th a year ago, and 23 seconds slower than his personal best on this course this time around.
In Class MM, a trio of Red Devils set personal records as Stratford placed 21st out of 23 teams.
“Tyler Ciufo, Amos Colocho, and Ryan Munoz saved their best for last,” Stratford coach Maurice Scioletti said in his race report.
Joshua Kydes placed 73rd in the field of 163 runners to lead the way with a time of 19:04.
Ciufo was 107th in 19:57, Colocho was 141st in 21:57, and Munoz was 159th in 23:46. Ciufo is a junior while Colocho and Munoz are both freshmen.
“Ciufo was ahead of his normal pace with the race halfway through,” Scioletti said.
Senior Paul Duncanson wrapped up his four-year Red Devils XC career with a 142nd place showing in 21:58.
Also, in the Class MM girls race, Bunnell placed 17th out of 18 teams.
Dannah Urban and Meghan Fenton both posted Top-100 finishers for the Bulldogs. Morgan Reilly, Kelsey Ponce and Madison Derubis came within four spots of each close behind.
Risa McLaughlin and Colleen Mullane also competed for the Bulldogs.
Other Bunnell boys competing were: Jonathan Gulish, who was 83rd in 19:02; Vincenzo Fabrizi, who was 145th in 21:41; and Colin Grib in 149th in 22:18.
The Bulldogs had 10 runners on their CIAC roster, but those three and Johnson were the only four who competed and finished.
