Site: Vanacore Field, North Haven
Team Records: Bunnell 0-1, North Haven 0-1
Last Week: Bunnell lost to Joel Barlow 42-20; North Haven lost to Fairfield Prep 14-7.
Key Players: Bunnell—Tyler Staggs-Burgess, Sr., WR; Jovan Eggleston, Sr, RB-DE; Tyreek Smith, Sr., RB-CB; Dylan Vancho, Jr., QB; Nicholas Ocoha, Sr., RB-MLB; North Haven—Justin White, Sr., QB; Maximino Augustine, Sr., RB; Noah Perillie, Sr., WR; Corey Hooks, Sr., RB-LB; Joe Ranciago, Sr., OL-DL.
Outlook: A week ago it was an under-manned Bunnell squad that fell to Joel Barlow in a game that could have been vastly different if the Bulldogs defense had stepped up and made a trio of plays in the first half. Bunnell grew up a lot in the game, though, and moves ahead to this week’s challenge—an SWC-SCC alliance game against a very tough North Haven squad. North Haven couldn’t get its single-wing offense going against Fairfield Prep last week, gaining just 76 yards through the air and 76 yards on the ground for 152 total yards. Prep is the 10th-ranked team in the state, though, according to the GameTimeCT media poll. Bunnell’s defense, which was supposed to be a strength, needs to step up this week in a big way to get the Bulldogs back on track.
Coach’s Comment: “North Haven is a tough hard-nosed football team who runs a system like no one else in the state,” Bunnell coach Ty Jenkins said. ” They are 100 percent committed to the single wing and they do it very well. They are well-coached and make minimal mistakes. We are looking to get back on track by cleaning up our run game. Vancho is looking to build on his first varsity start by protecting the football and scanning the field of play for the snap. Our goal is to play tonight one snap at a time not getting too high or too low.”
