SOUTHINGTON–Four athletes from the town’s two high schools were honored on Sunday night as CIAC Scholar-Athletes.

Stratford High’s Jennifer Melo and Samuel Branyan along with Bunnell’s Malcolm Brown and Jayleen Herrera were lauded for their work on the town’s athletic fields as well as the classroom.

The group was celebrated during the CIAC’s annual Scholar-Athlete banquet at the Aqua Turf on Sunday.

Melo is currently playing golf for the Red Devils while Branyan spent the fall season on the soccer pitch for his school.

Brown also played boys soccer and competed in indoor track for Bunnell while Herrera is an indoor and outdoor track runner.

According to the CIAC website, “The Scholar-Athlete Program annually recognizes two high school seniors – one boy and one girl – from each member high school whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievements are a model to others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage.”
