Bunnell at Masuk
Date/Time: Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, 7 p.m.
Site: Benedict Field, Masuk High School, Monroe
Team Records: Bunnell 0-3, North Haven 2-1
Last Week: Bunnell lost to Fitch 26-7; Masuk defeated Bristol Central 36-18.
Last Meeting: Bunnell defeated Masuk 50-28 in 2018.
Key Players: Bunnell—Tyler Staggs-Burgess, Sr., WR; Jovan Eggleston, Sr, RB-DE; Tyreek Smith, Sr., RB-CB; Dylan Vancho, Jr., QB; Nicholas Ocoha, Sr., RB-MLB; Masuk—Chris Tillotson, Sr., WR-DB; Jake Krofssik, Sr., OL-DL; Jeff Nugent, Sr., WR-LB; Nick Saccu, Soph, QB.
Outlook: What a difference a year makes. After piling up 50 points on the Panthers a year ago, a rebuilding Bulldogs squad heads down the hill in Monroe to face Masuk as a vastly different team. Bunnell let a victory slip away from its grasp last week at home, allowing three touchdowns in the final five minutes of the game. Vancho has been getting better and better at QB every game while the Bunnell defense, which was supposed to be the team’s strength, has been coming together as it gains more experience after some unexpected losses.
Coach’s Comment: “This week we have Masuk, who I am learning quickly to be an SWC rival of Bunnell,” first-year Bunnell coach Ty Jenkins said. “Masuk is a very well-coached and talented team. Last year they had a young team and it is paying off for them this season. They, like the last three teams we played, play the option and do it very well. I felt last week we kept the option under wraps pretty well and were a few plays and calls away from taking that game. We are looking to limit our mistakes. To even be in that game (against Fitch last week) in the fourth quarter with six turnovers shows the grit of this team. Masuk is big, fast and physical we will need to stay sound and establish offensive momentum early, and keep our defense off the field. I am sure the atmosphere will be electric tonight, as well.”
