Date/Time: Friday, Sept. 27, 2019, 7 p.m.
Site: Mastroni Field, Bunnell High School, Stratford
Team Records: Bunnell 0-2, North Haven 1-1
Last Week: Bunnell lost to North Haven; Fitch defeated Xavier 49-20
Key Players: Bunnell—Tyler Staggs-Burgess, Sr., WR; Jovan Eggleston, Sr, RB-DE; Tyreek Smith, Sr., RB-CB; Dylan Vancho, Jr., QB; Nicholas Ocoha, Sr., RB-MLB; Fitch—Lashier Edwards, Sr., QB; Noah Charron, Jr., WR; James Deichler, Jr., RB; Steve Cantres, Sr., RB/CB; Cam Aldinger, Sr., OL-LB.
Outlook: It’s not quite a Homecoming for Bunnell head coach Ty Jenkins, who has a lot of familiarity with the Fitch program from his own playing days at New London. After a season-opening loss to Wilton from the FCIAC, Fitch had a big win over traditional CT high school football power Xavier last week. Fitch was 7-3 last season, though, and returns a host of senior that could make it another tough night for the Bulldogs. A younger-than-expected defense has struggled for Bunnell through the first two games and Jenkins is hoping that every game’s experience will bring the group closer together.
Coach’s Comment: “This week we play Fitch, a Triple Option team that has boasted much success in the last few years. Fitch is a school with a ton of football tradition and is coached by an ECC Veteran in Coach Ellis. Their ability to run the football gives them the confidence to throw the football out of a double-wing look. Their QB is a big physical player. We will need to wrap him up to defend this offense. The heart of the Falcons is No. 22 (Deichler) at fullback, who ran for over a 100 yards last week. We will need to limit his number of big plays to be successful. Offensively we are looking to find our rhythm establishing the line of scrimmage with a consistent run game. We are looking to move the chains and hold sustained drives to put points on the board and defense off the field.”
