It was a Saturday sweep for the town’s varsity baseball teams.

Stratford bested East Catholic by a 7-4 score with Bunnell defeating Jonathan Law 9-3, highlighting the weekend’s high school sports action.

BASEBALL

Stratford 7, East Catholic 4

The Red Devils might have hosted the 37th annual Penders Memorial Scholarship Game, but it was the visiting team that raced out to a 7-4 lead in just an inning and a half.

From there, pitching on both sides dominated play and put up goose eggs to account for the final score.

Mike D’Aloia got the win for Stratford with Zach Demanche coming on in the seventh inning to pick up the save.

Malcolm Kinder’s two-run double led the Stratford effort hwile Zach Fedak had a hit and scored two runs.

The Red Devils are now 2-0 and will play at Weston on Monday at 4:15 p.m.

Bunnell 9, Law 3

The Bulldogs turned a 3-2 deficit into an 8-3 lead with a six-run fourth inning en route to its second win in three games this season.

Brett Batka earned the complete-game win, firing a four-hitter and giving up just two earned runs. He also had a bases-loaded, three-run double in that key fourth inning uprising.

Tony Broadhurst went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI while Ryan Nelson collected two hits and two runs batted in.

Bunnell now hosts Brookfield on Monday.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Lyman Hall 16, Stratford 11

Edie Threshie continued her hot start to the season, scoring six goals for the Red Devils, who fell to 0-4 on the season with another tough defeat.

Kassidy Murtha scored two goals and had an assist for Stratford while Elle Moshier, Amanda Ogrodowicz and Alexis Torri had single goals.

Helen Lefever had nine saves for the Red Devils, who host Newtown on Tuesday.

BOYS LACROSSE

Foran 17, Stratford 1

John Bike scored Stratford’s only goals after Foran raced out to a 14-0 lead halftime lead.

Tommy Cox had eight saves for the Red Devils (1-3), who travel to Stamford on Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Bethel 12, Bunnell 0

For the second straight game, Bunnell was unable to get a hit as the Bulldogs fell to 1-2 on the season.

Bunnell hosts Weston on Monday.
