The Bunnell baseball team ran its winning streak to three games, highlighting a busy day of sports around town as nine varsity teams were in action.

Here’s our daily rundown of what occurred:


Bunnell 3, Immaculate 2

The Bulldogs scored three first-inning runs to post the win behind winning pitcher Andy Verkovod, who got his first win of the season.

Verkovod scattered four hits and gave up just one earned run in those six innings. Brett Batka pitched the seventh to earn the save, striking out two.

Josh Kusinksi had a pair of hits for Bunnell while Henry Gloria had a two-run single in that first inning.

The Bulldogs (6-2 overall, 1-0 in SWC play) travels to New Fairfield on Thursday.

New Milford 9, Stratford 0

New Milford pitcher Luke Pliego helped get his team its first win of the season by being on his game and firing a one-hitter to top the host Red Devils.

Braydon Seaburg broke up Pliego’s no-hit bid with a single in the sixth inning.

The Red Devils fell to 2-5 with their fifth straight defeat. They travel to Pomperaug on Thursday.


Immaculate 23, Bunnell 2

Bunnell fell at home to a hard-hitting Immaculate team that notched 21 hits in the game.

The Bulldogs (1-5) had six hits in the game with Kayla Morel notching two of them and Kelly Bavolacco recording a triple.

They travel to New Fairfield on Thursday.

New Milford 15, Stratford 3

The Red Devils, which hadn’t played in eight days, suffered its first loss of the season the team’s defense, which had been strong over the first few weeks of the season, faltered in defeat.

Riley Matto had three hits and an RBI for Stratford (5-1) while Angela Grindrod (2 RBIs) and Rachel Newall (2 runs scored) both had two hits.

Stratford plays at Pomperaug on Thursday.


Brookfield 5, Bunnell 2

At Brookfield, the visiting Bulldogs got wins out of No. 3 three singles player Amari Campfield, who notched a 6-4, 7-6 win, and No. 4 singles Carrie Lutian, who won 6-2, 6-0.

The Bulldogs host Stratford on Thursday at 3 p.m.

Masuk 5, Stratford 1

Stratford fell at home on Wednesday morning. No further information was reported on this match.


Brookfield 5, Bunnell 2

The Bulldogs earned a pair of forfeit wins in doubles while falling to Brookfield on Wednesday morning.
