A first-year varsity coach’s first victory highlighted Thursday’s high school sports action around town.
Here’s a run down of what happened:
Bunnell 8, Westhill 7
First-year varsity head coach Alex Wiser got the first victory of his career after senior tri-captain Jacob Kudysch scored late in the Bulldogs 8-7 win over Westhill
Another captain, Charles Stewart, led Bunnell with four goals while Brian Carrafiello had two goals and two assists. Sophomore Paulie Alesevich got the scoring started for the Bulldogs while Will Heiden had three assists.
Sophomore goalie Quinton Budnick made 11 saves, three of which came in the fourth quarter to ice the win.
“Overall, it was a top-notch effort at all three levels—goaltending, defensive and definitely offensive,” Wiser said. “The effort level and collective believe that we could get the job never wavered. I’m extremely proud of these guys and the fact that they know what they can accomplish when everyone is working tirelessly as one.”
Bunnell travels to Foran on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Immaculate 7, Bunnell 5
The Bulldogs fell behind early and its comeback fell just short on Thursday by a 7-5 count to host Immaculate.
Cullen Roper had two hits for the 3-2 Bulldogs while Justin Herrera, Josh Kusinski and Colin Richards all had RBI doubles.
Bunnell faces Joel Barlow on Friday at home.
Weston 15, Bunnell 5
SWC power Weston came to town and raced out to an eight-goal halftime lead en route to a 15-5 win over Bunnell.
Morgan Reilly and Maura Kelly had two goals each while Kelly added one assist. Mariana Trovarelli also had a goal and an assist.
Tatiana Wright made 10 saves for the Bulldogs (1-3), who face a road test at Lyman Hall on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Stratford at Immaculate, ppd
The Stratford at Immaculate girls lacrosse game was postponed to a date to be determined.
Notre Dame-Fairfield 247, Bunnell 324
Bunnell’s Chanel Carrasquillo had the Bulldogs low score on the day as the team fell to a very good Notre Dame-Fairfield squad.
Stratford 5, New Milford 2
The Red Devils made the long drive to New Milford to improve to 2-2 on the season.
Chris Gangemi stole the show with a massive come from behind victory to seal the victory for the Red Devils. He trailed 5-0 before storming back to take a 7-5 lead.
Ben Barg also took a win at 8-2 while team captain Gio Gramajo was paired up with doubles partner Sean Youngquist to earn an 8-0 victory.
Anouar Agbere and Nicholas Rayho also earned an 8-5 with while the Red Devils got their last point when Daniel Collier and Cristian Moreno were awarded a forfeit victory.
Immaculate 6, Bunnell 1
Bunnell’s No. 1 singles player Lucy Li notched another victory, posting a hard-fought 7-5, 6-4 win over Immaculate’s top player on Thursday.
Other Bulldogs put up some great battles as well as No. 2 singles Mikaela Puzzo fell 7-5, 6-3 and Amari Campfield was defeated by a 7-5, 7-6 (9-7) tally.
The Bulldogs slipped to 1-2.
They travel to Joel Barlow on Monday.

The Bulldogs fell to the Mustangs on Thursday. No further details were reported for this game.
