Friday proved to be a big night for Bunnell High as the girls basketball team stunned Masuk at home and the boys team clinched a state tournament spot with a win on the road.
Bunnell 52, Masuk 27
The Bunnell defense held Masuk to just 27 points while posting its third win of the season on Friday night.
Jasmine St. Clair scored 14 points while Amanda Zdru added 12 more for the Bulldogs, who improved to 3-8.
The Bulldogs trek to Pomperaug on Tuesday and Weston on Thursday.
New Fairfield 42, Stratford 21
The host Rebels scored 30 points in the second and fourth quarters to double up the Red Devils on Friday night.
Abby Anka’s five points led Stratford. Sydney Ritchie, Serena Mbachiantim and Amanda Ogrodowicz had four points each.
Stratford plays at Bethel on Tuesday and is at Newtown on Thursday.
Bunnell 65, Masuk 59
Maximus Edwards scored 16 of his game-high 26 points in a 21-point first quarter to lead the Bulldogs to their sixth straight win.
The Bulldogs are now 8-3 on the season and have qualified for the state tournament.
Khalid Moreland added 14 points, Derrick Gyimah had 12 and Josh Giannoni chipped in eight more for Bunnell.
The Bulldogs host winless Pomperaug on Tuesday.
Bunnell 42, Bethel 34
Brandon Toscano had a big first-round pin at 195 pounds to help lead the Bulldogs to a win over Bethel in a dual meet on Wednesday.
