H.S. ROUNDUP: Bunnell lax teams brave the rain to sweep New Milford

Rain might have appeared to be the big winner on Monday, but don’t tell the Bunnell High boys and girls lacrosse teams.

The Bulldogs braved the elements and came away with a home-and-home sweep of the New Milford Green Wave.

The boys team made the road trip to New Milford and came away with a 14-8 win over the Wave, keeping their state tournament hopes alive.

The girls, meanwhile, fell one game short of a postseason berth but capped off the season with a 10-9 Senior Night victory.

Bunnell 14, New Milford 8

Sophomore Will Heiden scored six goals and assisted on two others as the Bulldogs improved to 6-8 on the season.

Charles Stewart added four goals and while Anthony Trovarelli had three goals and two assists. Jacob Kudysch set up five of the Bulldogs goals and added one himself. Nick Ochoa also contributed a goal and scooped up five ground balls on the day.

Sophomore goalie Quinton Budnick made eight saves.

The Bulldogs must win one of its last two games to clinch a postseason berth.

It hosts Tolland on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Amity on Monday at 7 p.m


Bunnell 10, New Milford 9

The Bulldogs wrapped up their 2019 fall season with a 6-10 mark, topping New Milford by a 10-9 score.

Morgan Reilly scored four goals and had an assist to lead Bunnell. Mariana Trovarelli had three goals and an assist while Maura Kelly scored twice. Christina diBeneddeto added a goal and an assist while Tatiana Wright made 11 saves.

It was the final game in the Bunnell High careers of Kelly, Wright, Holly Rosa and Ally Curcio.
