The Bunnell boys basketball team won its eighth straight game, but it wasn’t easy.

The Bulldogs (10-3) needed overtime to get the 69-63 victory over Weston (2-10) inside the Bunnell Gym.

Maximus Edwards netted 25 points to lead the Bulldogs while Khalid Moreland added 22 more.

The Bulldogs play at Bunnell on Monday, kicking off a stretch of three-straight road games.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Newtown 53, Stratford 27

The host Nighthawks raced out to a 25-4 lead after the first quarter and rolled to the win over Stratford.

Abby Anka scored 14 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, to lead the Red Devils. Julia Torreso added eight more.

Stratford, which fell to 4-9, hosts Pomperaug on Monday at 7 p.m.

Weston 48, Bunnell 30

The Bulldogs made the road trip to Weston and fell by a 48-30 score.

Amanda Zdru led the Bunnell effort with 12 points. Jasmine St. Clair and Adrianna DeBernado added five points each.

Bunnell heads to Pomperaug on tonight for a make-up game. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
