It seemed to take all season for Weston and Stratford to meet on a softball field.

After multiple postponements and venue changes the Red Devils hosted the Trojans in a game that didn’t disappoint.

In the end, Stratford held on for a 9-8 win that highlighted the day’s sports action around town.

Here’s a rundown of what happened on Tuesday:


Stratford 9, Weston 8

Bella DeLorenzo capped off a four-run rally by plating the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the host Red Devils pulled out the win over Weston.

Riley Matto also had a big two-run double in that inning as Stratford, which had trailed 8-5, took the lead. Angela Grindrod chipped in with an RBI single.

Taylor Lubas (2 triples) and Rachel Newall both had three hits in the game.

Stratford, now 11-3, plays at Weston on Wednesday.

Masuk 14, Bunnell 0

Ymoni Ortiz had a pair of base hits to lead Bunnell’s six attack in a loss to SWC power Masuk at home on Tuesday.


Masuk 5, Bunnell 3

The Bulldogs couldn’t take advantage of three Masuk errors, falling after the Panthers scored three times in the top of the seventh inning.

Colin Richards pitched five strong innings, giving up just five hits and one run. Cullen Roper paced the offense with two hits.

The Bulldogs fell to 7-9 overall and 2-7 in SWC play.


Bethel 15, Bunnell 3

Jacob Kudysch, Anthony Trovarelli and Will Heiden each scored for Bunnell, which fell at home to Bethel.

Goalie Quinton Budnick made eight saves for Bunnell, which slipped to 4-7. The Bulldogs face Brookfield on the road on Thursday.

New Fairfield 20, Stratford 1

New Fairfield 18, Stratford 7

Stratford felt to 5-8 on the season with a road loss to New Fairfield.

Edie Threshie netted three goals while Kassidy Murtha added two more to pace the Red Devils effort. Elle Moshier added a goal and an assist with Kaitlin LaPia adding a solo tally. Diana DeRosa also had an assist.

Goalie Helen Lefever had eight saves while Caroline Das had three ground balls and a caused a turnover.

Stratford plays at Masuk on Thursday before hosting Bunnell on Saturday.


Masuk 207, Bunnell 299

Danka Hlinka’s 67 led the way for Bunnell during their match at Whitney Farms Golf Club in Monroe on Tuesday.

Stratford was also scheduled to compete, but had to pull out due to AP testing scheduling conflicts.


Notre Dame-Fairfield 5, Stratford 2

The Red Devils got victories out of seniors Ashley Gramajo (6-2, 6-3) and Kelly Londa (6-1, 7-6) in their match against the Lancers.

Brookfield 6, Bunnell 1

The Bulldogs got their lone point at fourth singles as Carrie Lutian posted a 6-3, 6-2 win to celebrate her Senior Day at home.


Barlow 106, Bunnell 44

Pomperaug 108, Bunnell 42  

Bethel 76, Bunnell 69

The Bulldogs got a pair of wins from Yvemalya Germain in the discus (90-6) and shot put (31-1) to lead the Bunnell efforts.

Kaylah Phommachanh was second in the 100 (12.6) and high jump (4-10). Yovanna Cruz was also second in the shot put (30-2) and Jayleen Herrera was third in the triple jump (31-1).

Stratford at New Milford
