H.S. ROUNDUP: Kirkland sends Stratford to final; Bunnell falls in a close one

STRATFORD—Jayquan Kirkland sank two foul shots with 5.4 seconds left to play as Stratford stunned Trumbull for a 64-63 win in the first round of the Red Devils’ holiday tournament at Needham Gym.

Joe August led the Stratford charge with 24 points while Kirkland added 15 more. Tyler Ciccia contributed 13 with Mike D’Aloia adding nine more to the winning effort, as Stratford improved to 2-1 on the season.

The Red Devils face SWC rival Joel Barlow at 5 p.m. for the tournament title.

Masuk 70, Bunnell 66

The Bulldogs fell to SWC rival Masuk in the opening round of Bassick’s holiday tournament in Bridgeport.

Kevin Lanham led the Bulldogs with 21 points while Jaden McDowell chipped in with 14 more. Tiyrone Coleman tallied 11 more for Bunnell, which plays at 4 p.m., Saturday, in the consolation game.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Shelton 38, Bunnell 19

The Bunnell girls basketball team saw its three-game unbeaten streak snapped with a 38-19 loss at Shelton on Thursday.
