The Stratford Red Devils pulled out a Wednesday sweep over Weston in baseball and softball action highlighting the sports day for the town’s teams.

The Red Devils bested the Trojans 6-4 in baseball action and 9-1 in softball.

Here’s a rundown of what happened on a sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon.


Stratford 6, Weston 4

Braydon Seaburg had a home run and a double, driving in two, to lead the Red Devils to the victory.

Anthony Torreso also had two hits and two RBIs while winning pitcher Mike D’Aloia aided his own cause with a pair of hits and one RBI.

D’Aloia gave up single runs in the second and third innings over his six innings of work.

Stratford is now 10-6 overall.

Newtown 7, Bunnell 2

Henry Gloria pitched four innings of ball without giving up an earned run, but the Bulldogs fell to Newtown.

Josh Kusinski and Ryan Nelson drove in Bunnell’s two runs, Nelson’s with a double.


Stratford 8, Weston 1

Skyler Boibeaux and Riley Matto had three hits each, both driving in two runs, to lead Stratford to an 8-1 win over Weston on Wednesday.

Winning pitcher Rachel Newall, who gave up just one hit from the circle, added three hits with two RBIs, as well.

Angela Grindrod was 2-for-3 with an RBI, as well.

The Red Devils improved to 12-3 on the season.

Newtown 22, Bunnell 0

Bethel 17, Bunnell 9

Morgan Reilly scored five goals for the Bulldogs, who fell to Bethel on Wednesday.

Mariana Trovarelli, Christina DiBenedetto and Maura Kelly each had two goals apiece while Cat Nelson also chipped in a tally.

Tatiana Wright made 13 saves for Bunnell, which fell to 5-8.


Immaculate 233, Bunnell 312

Sasha Kalson had the low round of the day for Bunnell in its match against Immaculate at Oronoque Country Club.


Joel Barlow 6, Bunnell 1

The third doubles team of Kelsey Ponce and Sarah Kouja earned Bunnell’s lone point with a hard-fought 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win over their opponents.
