Stratford 77, Bethel 59

The Red Devils blew open a close game with a 30-point third quarter to get back on the winning track with the win over Bethel on Tuesday night.

Mike August and John Bike combined for 44 points to lead Stratford. August netted 23 with Bike adding 21 to the effort. Zack Fedak added 13 more while Jack Ryan had 9 points and 10 assists.

Stratford made 12 3-pointers in the game.

The Red Devils led 34-27 at the half before exploding for 30 points to take a 64-43 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Stratford (7-5, 4-1 in SWC play) hosts undefeated Newtown (11-0, 5-0) on Thursday at 7 p.m., at Needham Gym.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bethel 53, Stratford 27

A slow start doomed the Red Devils, who slipped to 4-8 overall.

Stratford only scored six first-half points as Bethel raced out to a 23-6 lead at the break.

Julia Torreso led Stratford with nine points while Kernya Upchurch had seven points.

The Red Devils travel to Newtown on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.

Bunnell at Pomperaug ppd.

Thursday’s game between Bunnell and Pomperaug, slated to be held in Southbury, was postponed due to heating issues inside the Panthers’ gym.

The game has been rescheduled for Friday.
