The Stratford boys tennis team completed a season sweep of Bunnell, but the Bulldogs got the Red Devils back by winning the girls tennis showdown, highlighting a busy Tuesday of action around town.
Here’s the rundown:
Stratford 5, Bunnell 2
The Red Devils posted their second win over Bunnell in the continuation of last week’s match, which was suspended by vacation-week rain showers.
Stratford’s Ben Barg (6-1, 6-0), Chris Gangemi (7-5, 7-6 [7-4]) and Dan Collier (6-4, 6-4) took wins and second, third and fourth singles, respectively.
In doubles action, the Red Devils got wins from Cristian Del Cid/Nicholas Nunez (6-2, 7-5) and An Tan Nguyen/Anouar Agbere (6-0, 6-1) to earn the victory and improve to 3-4 on the season.
For Bunnell, Tim Fraedrich dropped the first set but stormed back for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 win. And the third doubles team of Jacob Gomez-Assef Badr won 6-0, 7-5.
Weston 7, Bunnell 0
The Bulldogs played a doubleheader on Tuesday, hosting Weston after they played their rivalry match against Stratford.
Nikhil Shankar took two games off his Trojan opponent to highlight the second half of the twinbill.
Bunnell 7, Stratford 0
The Bulldogs swept the Red Devils on Tuesday.
In singles, Bunnell’s Lucy Li defeated Ashley Gramajo 6-1, 6-1; Mikaela Puzzo bested Larabe Chaudhary 6-0, ret.; Amari Campfield topped Megan Kozlowski 6-1, 6-3; and Carrie Lutian defeated Kelly Londa 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles action, Bulldog teams Keane Alindato/Sandy Barrios bested Angeline Gambino/Morgan Nguyen 6-0, 6-0; Sara Federici/Kerina Mandl defeated Maria Hernandeez/Darolyn Osorio 6-2; 6-2; and Sarah Khouja/Kelsey Ponce earn a win over Hayley Ivanko/Marie Sajaw 6-2, 6-3.
Bunnell is now 2-3 on the season.
Stratford 9, Kolbe Cathedral 1
Zach Fedare fired a complete-game three-hitter with seven strikeouts to lead the Red Devils to the win.
Stratford—which belted out 11 hits–scored three runs in the second, fifth and seventh innings to notch the win.
Braydon Seaburg led the way with three hits and three RBIs while Logan Zezima had a pair of hits and scored three runs. Preston Williams also had a two-RBI single.
Stratford 31, Harding 0
Angela Grindrod (13 strikeouts) threw her third no-hitter of the spring as the Red Devils improved to 7-1 on the season with the win over Harding.
Taylor Lubas went 3-for-3 with a grand slam while Riley Matto went 4-for-5 with five RBIs. Grindrod also plated six runs with three hits and Rachel Newall scored four runs and had three RBIs.
Notre Dame-Fairfield 28, Bunnell 0
The Bulldogs hosted the undefeated Lancers, but got three hits on the board.
Ymoni Ortiz, Kayla Morel and Amanda Wallace had hits for Bunnell.
Bethel 198, Stratford 261

Danka Hlinka had the day’s best score, a 56, but it was Joel Barlow taking a 270-284 win over Bunnell at the Oronoque Country Club on Tuesday.

Jennifer Melo notched her best score of the season to lead Stratford at the Mill River Country Club.

Bunnell took a pair of wins in a four-team meet at Weston.
The Bulldogs got individual victories from Kesiri Gonzales in the 100 (13.1 seconds) and JoJo Cruz in the shot put (31-4).
The Bunnell 4×100 relay team of Dardielle Exantus, Kayla Phommachnah, Gonzales and Abby Williams also won, though no time was reported.
Bunnell is now 4-1 in dual-meet action.
