Before the rains came, the town’s team saw a postseason game, a rivalry matchup and one team falling one win short of a state tournament berth.

Seventh-seeded Stratford softball was defeated 12-0 by No. 2 Notre Dame-Fairfield in SWC softball quarterfinal action; the Red Devils bested Bunnell 289-324 in girls golf action; and the Bulldogs boys lacrosse program fell one win short of clinching a state tournament berth by falling 12-9 at home to Amity.

Here’s a rundown of the games.

SOFTBALL

Notre Dame-Fairfield 12, Stratford 0

The Red Devils simply weren’t crisp enough to upset the Lancers, falling behind early and being unable to stop the bleeding.

Angela Grindrod’s triple was Stratford’s lone hit.

Stratford, now 14-7 overall, awaits its state tournament pairings.

GIRLS GOLF

Stratford 289, Bunnell 324

The Stratford Red Devils bested the Bunnell Bulldogs 289-324 in their rivalry matchup on Monday.

No further information was reported for the Red Devils while Shanel Carrasquillo had the low score for Bunnell.

BOYS LACROSSE

Amity 12, Bunnell 9

The Bulldogs fell one win short of qualifying for the state tournament with Monday’s defeat.

Bunnell lost one one-goal game, one three-goal game, and one four-goal game this season.

Anthony Trovarelli scored four goals while Jacob Kudysch netted two goals in their final games as Bulldogs. Zach Souza, Charles Stewart and Will Heiden had a single goal each.

Spencer Tote made 10 saves in goal for Bunnell, which finished the season 6-10.
