H.S. ROUNDUP: Stratford volleyball moves to 3-0 on the season

Football might draw all the attention on Friday nights, but it’s hardly the only show in town.

The Stratford girls volleyball team won its third straight game to open the season and Bunnell swimmer Rose Nieto showed once again while she’s one of the best swimmers in town winning two more individual events and being a part of two relay victories to highlight the evening.

Here’s a rundown:


Stratford 3, Bassick 0

The Red Devils moved to 3-0 on the young season with a 25-14, 25-7, 25-4 win over Bassick on Friday.

Sami Perley had 30 service points, including 17 aces, to lead the charge. Perley also had seven assists, four kills and four digs.

Sydney Ritchie added eight service points, seven kills, seven assists, and five aces to the cause with Abbi Jackson adding four aces and four kills.


Joel Barlow 90, Bunnell 80

The Bulldogs swam tough, but the Falcons’ depth carried them to a tight victory on Friday afternoon.

Rose Nieto won the 200 IM (2:19.54) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.58) while Taylor Niemiec won the 200 free (2:12.93) and Lili Dowell won the 100 free (1:01.38).

The Bulldogs also won a pair of relay races.

Grace Browne joined Nieto, Taylor Niemiec and Victoria Zottoli to take first in the 200-medley relay (2:04.13) while Amaya Davis, Alix Agathos, Zittoli and Nieto won the 200-free relay (1:51.24).

New Milford 96, Stratford 73
