H.S. Roundup: Stratford volleyball suffers first loss of the season

The Stratford High girls volleyball team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten, losing to New Milford by a 3-0 count on the road on Wednesday.

Here’s a rundown on Wednesday’s light schedule.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

New Milford 3, Stratford 0

The Red Devils slipped to 4-1 on the season, 1-1 in SWC play with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-14 loss to the Green Wave.

Sydney Ritchie led the Stratford effort with 8 digs, 7 service points, 5 kills and 3 assists. Sami Perley added 9 digs, 3 assists and 3 kills and Elani Marrero had 8 digs.

Joel Barlow 3, Bunnell 0

GIRLS SWIMMING

Brookfield 102, Bunnell 79

Victoria Zottoli won the lone individual event for the Bulldogs, taking first in the 100 free in 1:01.23. She also finished second in the 50 free (27.95).

A pair of Bunnell relay teams also took first place.

The 200 free relay team of Taylor Niemiec, Lili Dowell, Amaya Davis and Zottoli won in 1:53.03 with the 400 free relay squad of Dowell, Niemiec, Zottoli and Rose Nieto winning in 4:09.00.

Second-place finishes were recorded by: Niemiec (200 free, 2:10.46); Nieto (200 IM, 2:20.36; and 100 breast (1:11.55); Davis (100 fly, 1:15.11), Niemiec (500 free, 6:02.22) and Alix Agathos (100 back, 1:16.53).
