HS ROUNDUP: Stratford boys and girls both earn wins

BOYS BASKETBALL

Stratford 70, Brookfield 48

The host Red Devils raced out to a 9-point first quarter lead and pulled away over the second half to earn the win over Brookfield.

Jack Ryan’s 19 points led Stratford. Mike August added 17 points while Joe August (7 rebounds) had 15 and Zack Fedak had 11. Fedak and Ryan also combined for nine steals.

Stratford hosts Bunnell on Wednesday at 7 p.m., at Needham Gym.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Stratford 54, AF Amistad 50

Stratford stormed back from a 12-point, fourth-quarter deficit to pull out its second straight win over AF Amistad in New Haven on Monday.

Sami Perley led a balanced scoring effort with 16 points as Stratford outscored AF Amistad 21-7 over the final eight minutes. Abby Anka added 12, Julia Torreso had 10 and Sydney Ritchie chipped in with eight points.

The win moved the Red Devils to 6-11 on the season. They have to win two of three of their final games against Bunnell (Tuesday), Brookfield (Friday) or Masuk (Tuesday, Feb. 12) to clinch a spot in the state tournament.

The Red Devils do enter their final stretch of games 29th in Class L.

Thirty-two teams will make the tournament regardless of winning percentage.
