HS ROUNDUP: Stratford girls, Bunnell boys earn victories

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Stratford 58, Brookfield 47

Abby Anka poured in 30 points, including four 3-pointers, to leads the Red Devils to a 56-47 win over Brookfield on Friday night.

The win moved Stratford to 7-12 on the season, leaving them one win shy of clinching a state tournament berth. The Red Devils will get that opportunity on Tuesday at Masuk.

Julia Torreso added 14 points to the winning effort, as well.

New Milford 39, Bunnell 31

Bunnell’s outside shot at sneaking into the top 32 spots in Class L suffered a big blow on Friday night as the Bulldogs lost to New Milford, which won just its second game of the season.

Five teams are tied for the final two spots in the playoff hunt with three other teams just a game back.

Jasmine St. Clair scored 12 points to lead Bunnell, which dropped to 4-15. Kristin Zack added six points.

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season hosting a 9-win Joel Barlow team on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Bunnell 79, New Milford 59

Elijah Alexandre and Maximus Edwards scored 20 points each as Bunnell bounced back from their second straight loss with a rout of New Milford on Friday.

Khalid Moreland added 15 points to the winning effort.

The Bulldogs travel to Joel Barlow on Tuesday.
