Weather didn’t get the best of at least one game on Friday.

The Newtown Nighthawks, however, did get the best of the Stratford Red Devils hitting the road to Penders Field for a home game.

With field conditions unplayable at Newtown’s Fairfield Hills Complex, Stratford offered to host the game with Newtown being the home team.

Newtown didn’t need that home field advantage, however, or its last at-bat as the Nighthawks earned a 5-0 win.

“A two-out error in the bottom of the first led to Newtown scoring three unearned runs,” Stratford coach Mick Buckmir reported. “That set the tone for the entire evening.”

Hard-luck Stratford starter Preston Williams took the loss. He was relieved by Nick Traussi in the fifth and Cam Smith in the sixth. Both relievers hurled scoreless innings.

Stratford only had three hits registered by Anthony Torreso, Smith and RJ Burlone.
