MIDDLETOWN—The 2019 indoor track season got under way with the first developmental meet of the season at Wesleyan University and two Bunnell Bulldogs came out with first-place showings on Saturday.
Senior Abigail Williams won the girls long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 6 inches while senior Christ N’Dabian took first place in the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.64 seconds.
Senior Kesiri Gonzales placed second in the girls 55 (7.76) with Jesone Khantikone, another senior, taking home third in the long jump (19-7).
Other top finishers by Bunnell included: senior Alex Mosley, who was fifth in the boys 55 (6.86); senior Jayleen Herrera, who was 7th in the girls long jump (14-10); senior Shania Mahabee, who tied for seventh in the girls pole vault (6-6); freshman Mia DiPronio, who was ninth in the 3,200 (13:10.26); and junior Susie Poisson, who was 10th in 55 hurdles (10.53).
In relay action, the girls 4×200 was fourth (1:53.54); the boys 4×200 was fourth (1:39.8); and the boys 4×400 was fifth (4:01.90).
Stratford High also competed in the meet.
Top performers included: junior Chi Chi Anekwe, who was sixth in the girls long jump (15-4 ½) and eighth in the 55 dash (7.92), and junior Kyla Smith, who was sixth in the shot put (26-7).
In relay action, the Red Devils boys 1,600-meter sprint medley was sixth (4:11.74), the girls 4×200 was eighth (1:58.91) and the boys 4×200 was 10th (1:44.5).
