State tourneys begin with Stratford girls lax, Bunnell baseball in prelim action

It’s time. State-tournament time, that is.

Teams from Stratford and Bunnell are both bound for the state’s postseason tournaments and it starts today.

The Stratford girls lacrosse team will make the long journey north to Windsor for a preliminary round Class M state tourney game.

Eighteenth-seeded Stratford (7-9) will take on No. 15 Windsor (9-7) with a berth against second-seeded Tolland at stake on Tuesday. Game time is 3:30 p.m.

In Saturday morning baseball action, meanwhile, Bunnell will host Bristol Eastern in a preliminary game.

Bunnell, at 8-12, got the 31st seed and will host the game at 11 a.m. against Bristol Eastern, which is also 8-12.

The winner will play at No. 2 Wethersfield (16-4) on Tuesday.

Stratford avoided a prelim game by going 12-8 this season, which put them in the 17th spot. The Red Devils will trek to Meriden to face No. 16 Platt High School (also 12-8) for the game on Tuesday at 4 p.m., at Ceppa Field.

The Stratford softball team also made the postseason and will host a game at DeLuca Field.

The Red Devils will face SWC rival Pomperaug. Stratford defeated Panthers, 5-4, during the regular season.

Game time is slated for 4 p.m, at DeLuca Field.

The town’s track teams will be in action at the Class MM championship meet on Wednesday in Middletown. Post time is 3 p.m.
