SWC BASEBALL: After dream start, Stratford falls in extra-inning walk-off fashion

BETHEL—It was the dream beginning.

Unfortunately, it came with a nightmare ending.

The Stratford baseball team led a two-run slip away in the final inning and then lost to Bethel 4-3 in eight innings during Tuesday’s SWC quarterfinal.

Braydon Seaburg led off the game with a solo home run as the Red Devils built a lead of 3-1 entering the seventh inning.  Mike D’Aloia added a single and an RBI and Luke Zezima had two hits and scored a run.

Bethel came storming back in the seventh, though.

The Red Devils were one out away from advancing before Nick Quinn delivered a two-out, two-run single to tie the game.

In the eighth, Bethel’s Stefano DiMeglio led off with a single and wound up scoring on a fielder’s choice to put the Wildcats into the semifinals.

Stratford, now 12-9 overall, waits for the start of the state tournament.
